Featuring multiple time zones, this new timepiece is inspired to the first Longines dual-time zone wristwatch manufactured in 1925, which featured the Zulu flag on its dial – with Zulu referring to the letter "Z" which designates universal time for aviators and members of the armed forces.
Housed in a 42 mm x 13.90 mm stainless steel case that can be matched to an interchangeable stainless steel bracelet or an interchangeable brown, beige or blue leather strap, the new in-house Calibre L844.4 (A31.L411) makes it possible to adjust the hour hand independently of the GMT indicator. Additional time zones are read using a 24-hour hand and a bidirectional rotating bezel, also graduated over 24 hours.
Equipped with a silicon balance-spring, this self-winding movement beats at 25,200 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 72 hours and is chronometer-certified by the COSC (the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) as confirmed by the five stars stamped on the dial which, in the history of Longines, is a guarantee of a movement of the highest quality.
The Longines Spirit Zulu Time is available on a matt black, sandblasted anthracite or sunray blue dial, with a date window now centred at the 6 o'clock position. The domed sapphire crystal has a multi-layered anti-reflective coating on both sides. The bezel is enhanced with a coloured ceramic insert and lacquered numbers.
Hands and numerals are filled with Super-LumiNova for improved readability in all light conditions.
Thanks to the screw-in crown and the engraved caseback secured with six screws, the watches are water resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet.
The new Longines Spirit Zulu Time has a price of Euro 2,820 / US$ 2,950 with strap (references L3.812.4.53.2, L3.812.4.63.2 and L3.812.4.93.2) or Euro 2,930 / US$ 3,050 with steel bracelet (references L3.812.4.53.6, L3.812.4.63.6 and L3.812.4.93.6).
